Nate Moore

I started running consistently while in the United States Marine Corps starting in 2001 and over time learned to enjoy it more and more. I ran my first road marathon, which was also my first race, in 2005 and bonked like none other. Since then I’ve studied the sport over the years and applied that knowledge in an effort to improve my own running and endurance. I look forward to sharing this knowledge with other runners and helping them improve their endurance and speed with a smart and consistent approach to training. More importantly I will share my philosophy on the importance of cultivating a positive mindset and nurturing it to help you enjoy running for many years to come.

About Me

I began running in 2007 at the age of 38 in an effort to lose some weight and get into shape to be able to keep up with my newborn son, Chase. What started out very casual, turned into a lifestyle change and 6 months later I ran my first marathon in San Francisco. I finished in a time of 3 hours and 22 minutes and the desire to get faster began! Later that year, I ran the CIM and improved my time to 3:06 and then in April of 2008 I crossed the finish line at Big Sur under the 3 hour mark at 2:58. Since then, I have gone on to complete numerous marathons and qualify for Boston where I was fortunate to be able to make the trip in 2011. For the past several years I’ve moved more to the trails and ultra distances and have been enjoying a different type of challenge.

Philosophy on Coaching

I believe the key to success in running comes from staying consistent and putting in the work. Having fun is optional, but highly recommended! Balanced training is very important to the consistency that is required for continued growth and success. This means runners should maintain training stimuli at varied paces and as their goal race approaches, the more specific training becomes. Being able to accomplish this comes from educating the runner as to the purpose of each run and ensuring the right effort is given on the specific run/workout. I don’t believe someone should blindly follow a training plan of any sort without understanding how and why it’s put together. I’ve spent numerous hours reading the work of many well known coaches but have been the most influenced by Joe Rubio and Tom “Tinman” Schwartz.
